What the terms mean

What is a minimum deposit?

The smallest amount an account type asks you to pay in before you can open a position. The amount for each account type is in the table.

What is an account currency?

The currency an account is kept in. When it differs from the currency you pay in, or from the currency an instrument is priced in, amounts are converted, and a conversion can have a cost of its own.

What do the spread and the pricing model mean?

Every instrument has two prices: a slightly higher one to buy and a slightly lower one to sell. The gap between them is the spread, and it is a cost of every trade. The pricing model says whether an account type charges through the spread alone, or through a narrower spread with a commission.

What is a commission?

A separate charge for opening or closing a position, on top of the spread. Where an account type charges one, the table shows how.

What are leverage and margin?

Leverage lets you open a position larger than the money you put up for it. That money is the margin. Leverage magnifies losses as much as gains, so a small move in price can cost more than the margin you set aside.

What is a minimum trade size?

The smallest position an account type lets you open. Sizes are often counted in lots, a standard quantity of an instrument, and a fraction of a lot is a smaller position.

What is a swap-free option?

A position held open overnight usually has a small charge or credit applied, called a swap, which reflects the interest rates behind the instrument. A swap-free option replaces it with a different arrangement. The table shows which account types offer one.

Important information

Trading forex and contracts for difference involves a high level of risk, and it is not suitable for every investor. These products use leverage, which means a position can be held with only part of its value set aside as margin, and leverage magnifies gains and losses alike. A position may be closed when margin requirements are not met. Markets can move quickly, and at times a market can be difficult to trade at all. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. Nothing on this website is investment advice or a recommendation, and nothing here takes account of your objectives, your experience or your circumstances. Consider your own circumstances, and seek independent advice before you act.

The table on this page compares the account types Noryn Markets names. It is not an offer, and each value in it is confirmed by Noryn Markets before you act on it. Questions about either account go through the contact form.
